Signal processing and antenna techniques for atmospheric radar
概要
While atmospheric radar has been an instrument mainly to observe wind velocities, it is expected today to obtain advanced information in combination with the progress of radar technologies. On the hardware side, we have developed the advanced atmospheric radar ‘PANSY’ that surpasses the principal capabilities of Kyoto Univ.’s MU radar, and installed it at Syowa station in 2012. In this talk, as well as the radar system, recent studies on the software side are presented, in respect with antenna design, radar imaging, clutter rejection, high precision parameter estimation using adaptive signal processing and pulse coding.

Frontier of Quantum Information Processing
概要
Environment surrounding a quantum computer is undergoing a major change in recent years. So far, proof-of-principle experiment using a small number of quantum-bits has been performed mainly. However, more recently, the main focus of experimentalists is shifted to large-scale systems and high-precision controls (with fidelity more than 99.5%), which allows us to build a scalable quantum computer. Moreover, in addition to the conventional quantum circuit model, novel approaches such as analog quantum simulator and quantum annealing have appeared. In this talk, I will review a basic concept of quantum computation and report recent experimental and theoretical progress.

“Green” On-chip Inductors in 3D ICs and Their Opportunistic Utilization: the Good, the Bad, and the Powerful
概要
Through-silicon-vias (TSVs) are the enabling technique for three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs). However, the large TSV area due to process limitations significantly reduces the benefits of 3D ICs. On the other hand, a major limiting factor of many on-chip circuits such as DC-DC converters and resonant clock is the large area overhead induced by spiral inductors. In this talk, we will demonstrate that it is possible to utilize TSVs to form vertical inductors with minimal footprint. We will further explain the challenges emerged with these TSV inductors, including the lossy substrate and the constrained availability. Finally, we will present the strategies to overcome these challenges in an opportunistic way.

Radar Imaging using Interferometry Techniques
概要
A radar is a remote sensing instrument transmitting and receiving pulses of electromagnetic waves for detecting targets in given directions and ranges. Angular and range resolutions are basically given by the dimension of the antenna array (with respect to the radar wavelength) and by the pulse duration. In order to improve the resolutions, interferometry techniques using multiple antenna arrays and/or multiple frequencies have been developed and are in constant optimization through more and more sophisticated processing methods. According to the assumed properties of the targets, filter bank methods or parametric methods can be applied. During this presentation, we will describe the basics of the methods developed in antenna array processing and the most widespread used. We will show how some of these methods can also be used for rejecting interferences.

High performance distributed access control mechanisms for wireless systems to support various services
概要
The distributed access control mechanisms, on the contract to the centralized access control schemes used by such as cellular systems, have many benefit to be used in the unlicensed spectrum and adopted in many standards of wireless communication systems such as wireless LAN and Zigbee. The most famous distributed access control mechanism will be the CSMA/CA protocol adopted by the IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs which was originally designed for sending the best effort data. As the increase of applications, the wireless LAN systems are expected to offer high spectrum efficiency and to have various capabilities. Today’s talk covers evolution of wireless LANs and the requirements behind them, and also introduces some technical solutions and applications of current and future wireless LANs.

Quantum algorithms for the triangle finding problem
概要
In this talk I will present recent developments on quantum algorithms for graph-theoretic problems. I will first introduce the concept of quantum algorithms, and in particular the powerful technique known as “quantum walk search”, and describe several fundamental applications. I will then focus on one of the most basic graph-theoretic problems: decide if a given graph contains a triangle. After explaining why this problem is important, I will survey the state of the art of classical and quantum algorithms for triangle finding, and present some new results I obtained recently.
